Designers Morikawa and Yamagishi were the unfought highlights of this year’s Amazon Fashion Week Tokyo S/S.

They showcased their newest collections for Christian Dada and Bed j.w. Ford respectively in a join show on Wednesday night. The runway was held on two levels in a parking lot in Shinjuku, Tokyo which were only accessible to those with a private invitation.

The collections were contrasting yet complimenting. Morikawa’s polished and monochromatic looks contrasted with the colourful street wear by Yamagishi.

These two approaches created a visually dramatic show that highlighted the beauty of both aesthetics. The show intertwined and blurred the lines between formal and street wear which reinterprets the current new wave of casual formal wear.

In between bold and striking looks that seemed of confidence, some more light and fun looks were thrown into the mix. It gave the collection the lightness it needed.

Since both designers have shifted their focus towards international markets in recent years, their joint return to Tokyo caused them to be the most hyped show of the year.
