When Fernanda Ly stepped onto the Louis Vuitton runway with her pastel pink hair and long eyelashes, one thing was pretty much clear: the ultra-famous fashion brand was proud to claim its manga and sci-fi inspiration for this 2016 Spring/Summer Collection.
Fernanda opened the show in a pink moto jacket and leather shirt, with a well-known tiara worn across her forehead. And if the tiara that she was wearing is indeed directly inspired by Sailor Moon’s silver one, the basic style of this collection is this Sweet and Rock Baby Doll Look, winning combination of many mangas heroines.
New style, new influences but true atmosphere. Louis Vuitton created the surprise with amazing pieces, using fabrics such as leather, silk and even python. Plus, if see-through fabrications might be a trend for spring, Nicolas Ghesquière – the designer – added his own spin on transparency with mesh tops structured to look like digital-age chain mail.
This season, and for those who are anti-pants, Vuitton’s parade of pouf skirts might do the trick, especially when worn with the house’s new monogrammed leather jackets.
And for the beauty look, this year Louis Vuitton’s order was all about individuality. Models wore their hair down with tiny braids or in their natural style, and there were several makeup looks on display, including this manga-esque play on a cat-eye.
